February 9, 8:00pm
Yaletown Roundhouse, Performance Centre
181 Roundhouse Mews, 604.713.1800
This performance will feature the full
EBONY ROOTS: Concert
as previewed in our Part 1 concert on December 2.
This concert features a designed musical journey through Black music and musically narrates the evolving emancipation of the Black community from the North American perspective.
This powerful and intimate music experience journeys through prison work-songs, passionate spirituals, iconic songs from the stage, to the emergence of Black Soul, R&B, Blues and Motown.
Produced by Brandon Thornhill with support from Vancouver's own award-winning company, Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre (www.sooundthealarm.ca), who have been thrilling audiences across the country with their concert and theatrical programming.
Practicing decolonization in the arts is constant and difficult work. STA is committed to doing that work - which in part, means acknowledging, reflecting, and deeply understanding the tensions inherent to being an organization operating in support of amplifying diverse voices, and partnering with communities of which we are not always a part of.
